Marcus ‘Yung Blood’ Marks newcomer to Festival calypso competition
Marks hails from Virgin Gorda and is well known as a keyboard player and backup singer. He has been seen and heard doing a number of solos, although not to the extent of other members of the singing ‘Marks’ family.
Speaking with Marks during one of his usual gigs, he told Virgin Islands News Online that having been around music for quite some time, even at the level of performing in a number of combinations at various levels, he recently composed a few songs which he considered calypso competition worthy.
“I wrote some songs and they seemed calypso worthy to compete so I just decided why not take a chance and do it and have a little fun and see how they are received.”
Marks' song for the elimination round is titled 'Privilege of Freedom'.
Cottoy back on the scene!
Lavida Cottoy is also said to be back on the scene as the Chairperson for the Sub-Committee of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee this year after taking a break for some years. Efforts to reach her have been unsuccessful as of time of publication.
The elimination round of the 2015 calypso competition takes place this Friday July 3, 2015 at Village Cay Marina during the CCT 'happy hour' that starts at 5:30pm.
Those expected to turn up for the elimination round are Queen Makisha, Ranking Joey, Mr Spice, King Paido, Rockey, Oginga, Queen Shereen, Falco, Mighty Macko, Yungblood, Mighty Leh Leh, Nazarene and Mighty Cloud.
This news site has been informed that each calypsonian will perform one song, which will be judged. Eight contestants would then be selected to go through to the finals set for July 29, 2015.
The reigning Calypso Monarch is Joycelyn Searles aka Sistah Joyce.
