Many violated ‘no dogs allowed’ notice- Beach goers
Several persons complained to our newsroom of the blatant disregard of the rule, adding that some violators were even upset when told of the restriction on animals, including dogs.
Persons are allowed on all beaches, except The Baths and Devil's Bay on Virgin Gorda, from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm for exercise and therapy only and animals are not allowed 'until further notice'.
"I was out just checking out some beaches down West [End] and every last beach had persons running, walking and sea bathing their dogs against government's restrictions," a concerned resident told VINO.
According to the Tortola resident, who requested not to be named, he was met with aggressive attitude and verbal abuse when informing the lawbreakers of their actions.
"Man you wouldn't believe how rude and obnoxious people can be even when approached in the most polite and mannerly way."
Threatened
The local man said he thought most persons missed the note of "No Dogs allowed" on beaches during this phase of the reopening.
“Most of them were rude as hell. One has the idiocy to threaten to smash my phone if I were to video or take his photo but I wasn't even thinking of doing that. I am aware of the rule and I was only informing them just in the event that the police came and could arrest them, that's all."
He further said, "There were a few though who picked up their dogs and left when told of the violation.
I saw one person at Long Bay, West End and she was happy about me informing her. She put the dog in her vehicle and continued her exercise. An elderly woman said her dog is a guard but cooperated by stating she was going to leave and walk the street instead."
Both Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and Governor Augustus J.U. Jaspert had warned that should persons fail to comply with the COVID-19 beach regulations the ban would be reinstated.

Cases are rare, but it can happen. Here’s how to lower infection risks for humans and animals.
A small number of pets worldwide, including cats and dogs, have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, “mostly after close contact with people with COVID-19,”...
Physical distancing is a key preventative measure. Public health experts recommend keeping your pet away from other people and animals outside the household.
Avoid dog parks and public spaces where dogs gather to play, and when on walks, keep your dog at least 6 feet from other people and animals....

If you want to be exempt from Executive orders just because you feel like it, move to Texas- it’s the new law there.
Smh.
Grow up, people.
can you say that on TV
If the government are taking issue with dogs on beaches, then raise it and have an orderly debate. Don't use Covid Emergency provisions to suddenly impose new unrelated restrictions on people. It sets a dangerous precedent. "paper clipping" rules like this to emergency legislation should not be taken lightly.
For those who love to blindly follow the rules, go read some history.
Come now people. Theres plenty beaches. Maybe have one or two for the dogs to run and play. They NEED exercise! Poor dogs been stuck home just like us all. One love, one life, one BVI
I think that dogs should be barred from the beaches within certain hours and especially in the popular beaches.
What these law-breakers do not realize is that they are compromising other persons' health and wellbeing. Covid-19 has no favorites, and if we do not watch sharp, we may be back in quarantine more sooner than what later.
During those precious few hours granted for exercise, bathing and relaxing we all share the beach. When I’m walking, I don’t know if your ‘sweet’ dog is going to sense my fear and go on the attack. I know from personal experience that neither do you. I was not comfortable using my beach when I saw the number of unleashed dogs on it Sunday.
When this is over, maybe we can revisit this and dedicate a couple of our beaches for families and unleashed dogs. For now- keep your dogs home.
You will never get away with that. Just remember who the majority of dog owners are that take their dogs to the beach. Our dogs turns up dead after they leave the beach? It is going to be big problem for the BVI.
