Man brutally attacked with machete outside nightclub in Long Bush

- Injured man required emergency surgery & remains in serious condition; Shavoy Dascent charged

LONG BUSH, Tortola, VI- A man remains hospitalised in serious condition at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital after he was attacked by a man with a machete outside a nightclub in Long Bush at the weekend.

Shavoy Dascent, 23, of Josiah’s Bay, has since been charged with Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent and Armed with an Offensive Weapon. 

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a press release on June 3, 2024, said shortly after midnight on June 1, 2024, officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force responded to a report of a disturbance involving the use of a machete in Long Bush, outside Edge Nightclub.

It said initial investigations revealed that an altercation occurred between two males, during which one male, armed with a machete, injured the other.

The injured male was transported to Dr Orlando Smith Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and remains admitted in stable but serious condition.

Police said Dascent remains in custody pending his appearance at the Magistrate's Court.
