ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Fifteen strike outs from Malik Malone led the Orioles to a 14-3 Little League Baseball victory over the Athletics on Saturday February 22, 2014 at the Old Recreation Ground.

Having completed the 1st inning all square at two runs a piece, courtesy of Micquel Stoutt and Chadwick Evans all reaching home on fielders errors for the O’s, and Kishawn Esprit and K’Moi Pancho doing likewise for the A’s, the O’s blew the game open with a four run 2nd inning again being allowed to progress around the bases and score far too easily on Athletics fielding errors.

In the 3rd inning the O’s got on the score board three more times as first Bradwick Evans singled to centre field before moving around to third base and then being brought home during Malik Malone’s at bat.

Chadwick Evans then almost made it all the way to third on a drive, but was called out as Glenford Prentice and Malone all came home.

The A’s got back on the score sheet during the bottom of the third when Pancho tripled to deep right centre field and reached home plate on a Clifton Forbes Jnr single. Forbes circled to 2nd before Devonte George struck out looking.

Kavion Olivierre got things going for the O’s at the top of the 4th with a single to centre field. He then reached 2nd as Stephen Emmanuel took a couple of Strikes from George in relief of Esprit. Emmanuel was sat down by George; Olivierre reached third on a wild pitch and came home as Stoutt popped up, only for the catch to be dropped.

Caleb Dawson was “walked” as Stoutt moved to second, Evans struck out looking and the Prentice, too, was walked to first to load the bases.

Malone’s double to centre field scored Stoutt, but Smith was unable to take advantage of a full count and was out looking to close the inning.

With the score at 12-3 and Jamar Thomas reaching 3rd with no outs it looked like the A’s had a lifeline, but Malone sat down the next three batters including Kevon Thomas and Shemoi Carey to close out the danger.

The O’s hit a further two runs at the top of the 5th inning meaning the A’s faced do or die time and had to score big. Unfortunately for them Malone was right in his zone and extended his “strike outs” for the game from 12 to 15 in short time to conclude proceedings. Malone was named the Winning Pitcher, Esprit took the loss.

The O’s had 6 hits, made 4 errors and left 4 on Base, whilst the A’s had 2 hits, made 11 errors and left 3 on Base.

Bradwick Evans went 1 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, Chadwick went 1 for 3 and scored 1. Both George and Forbes Jnr went 1 for 2 for the A’s.
