Males tame your mind

We teach, we preach, do some spare the rod and spoil the child? Boy behave! Keep from bad company! Keep your hands to your side, are words echoed over and over by mainly parents and those who hold the roles of public concerns.

The male is created to protect and defend, but if you don't have self-control or know your religious beliefs, you react on your emotions, leaving you in the hands of law enforcement.

Women have misplaced the males' roles as breadwinners, leaving them less educated and less independent. The introduction of manly jobs for males has dropped after leaving high school. Only those who make the grade, or get family help can move on to further their studies. The rest is left to hustle for themselves.

No quick-rich schemes

No one wants to call the young men bad boys or criminals. Some may not have been taught right, but you hear from people in society telling you how to conduct your- self right, you must heed to instructions. To those who are vulnerable and get involved in the rich scheme lies, it's a dead-end from the beginning. Taking chances in illegal activities is life or death, it may look good and sound good, the minute you start you become one of them. It's not about I get my share and I gone. Inexperienced participation will lead you to be caught sooner or later. Your freedom is more important.

You may be influenced by sports stars and entertainers but not knowing what it takes to get there. The industry works almost sometimes a whole day in order to perfect their craft. The media duty is to glamorise them, making them more than what their personal life is like. Money is gained on both ends.

Noise pollution

On the issue of noise pollution of music in vehicles, Christians included, and scooters on the streets, police cannot just be making round up's but needs to be a 24-hour operation in order to curtail this problem. It is understood it's all over the islands. I can attest to the East End community which is now a haunted village. There are the law-abiding riders and the willful ones who don't care who eardrum they burst. They are disturbing any hour of the day and night, drowning out your listening ears on the inside.

Young men, you have to realise most homes are by the roadside. You are disrupting sleep from babies, old folks and working folks. Ain't no easy noise your making. Cranking up, running up in public places don't care who occupy the areas. Who is allowing a racketeering race car to be on the street? These disturbances are not healthy for a community. This is overdue now and is going on for years. The East End Police Station is aware of these happenings. It does not seem to be a priority for the police department, it has to be treated like any other matter. We cannot leave social ills unattended or else it will bring down the country. This issue has to be taken care of before the year ends.

Young boys not going to church

Family values need to return, the Virgin Islands don't need to become a hustle-bustle country over what! There is a clash between businesses and churches on a Sunday morning. Ice-cream truck you need to park up and sell, turn off the music while passing through the village, worship is in session. Businesses situated in villages need to close on a Sunday morning, let family return to church. There are hardly little boys in Sunday school as they stop attending church at the age of sixteen. You don't have to prance to please anyone but attend when you could. For starters, meditate on the Psalms and Proverbs of the Holy Bible.

Relationships

To the abusers of women, you might think all is lost when it comes to affairs in relationships. You are quick to react with a weapon or get hostile. If the woman is wrong she is losing you, the biggest revenge is not taking her back. Know your priorities before starting a relationship, if you cannot cope with the presence of a next man's child or children don't get involved with that woman. Whereas women who have heard the dangers of these relationships and continue to trust in the name of love, take your child/children to a safe facility until you finish your business.

The system is set to put you away fast enough. There is robbery in the system itself but it is classified legal. Nothing is an excuse to do wrong, but the money is not getting to the persons who need it for progressive reasons. If you don't understand Faith, the males especially are being forced to the streets for the good or bad.

Advice

To avoid falling in the hands of the law, here are some tips to follow :  * use your mouth to express your hurt or feelings *stay in your own home, you don't need to confront any one when heated, take your complaints to the police station *look up a subject you are interested in while waiting for opportunities * ask questions from skilled workers, practice the skill *take a walk along the seashores * listen to conscious music.

The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head. Proverbs: 20:29.

We commend those young men, especially those who have started a roadside business. One day you will be able to get your own establishment. Keep the faith.

You mean well. First off I dont live in the VI. I just like reading the news regarding my family's home country and a place where I spent my formidable years. However, sone of the changes you are advocating for or against disenfranchises another citizen. No everyone worships on sunday. Should others that worship on a different day ask for businesses to curb the noise? It's a slippery slope. Religion and government dont mix. Your religion only applies to those who subscribe to it and you can't use yours to govern and control others. Rendered undo Caesar what's his. Speak to real internal issues in the bvi that are the source of the problems also. That is Race, Class, Ill equipped eduction system and Proverty levels cause by ling standing practices that have been the incubator for what you see today. In some that are held in high esteem didn't get to the "respectable" level with clean hands either. So you cannot ignore those facts. All that said I am sure you penned your op ed from a place of concern, just consider all sides and not just the immediate religious insular environment that you and yourd may have been cultured in. To do so would be pious and judgmental.
