The tournament will be held on October 1, 2016 at the Save the Seed Energy Centre n Duffs Bottom with 10 participating primary schools from across the territory and Willard Wheatley Primary is expected to put on a strong challenge in an attempt to defend its title.
Competing teams will be from the Alexandrina Maduro, Ebenezer Thomas, Althea Scatliffe, Leonora Delville, Ivan Dawson, Joyce Samuel, Enis Adams, Isabella Morris, Willard Wheatley and St George’s primary schools.
President of M.A.L.E. Pastor Henderson K. Tittle said Jelani N. Lettsome was one of the boys in the M.A.L.E. programme who passed away in 2014 and they are committed to doing the bowling tournament in his honour as a yearly event.
“We have 10 schools so far that will be taking part in this bowling tournament. We have also trophies to give to the participating schools. We have a championship trophy which we will give to the school with the most points and this trophy will be passed on when we have our tournament next year,” said Tittle.
Further to the memory of Jelani, the all-boys club continues to strengthen its brotherhood focusing on all aspects of life that will help shape them to be admirable members of society and at the same time help in guiding them to a positive future as men.
Academics & mannerism
Their year of mentorship recommenced yesterday September 10, 2016 at their usual Althea Scatliffe School venue and on Virgin Gorda they will recommence on September 15 at the Bregado Flax Educational Centre. The focus this year is academics and mannerism.
Jelani N. Lettsome, an 11-year-old student of the Joyce Samuel Primary School, died on Wednesday November 19, 2014 after being taken to Peebles Hospital following complaints of headaches.
Lettsome had been a member of the youth mentorship programme up to the time of his death and was said to be an active and normal child.
M.A.L.E. encourages all interested persons to come out and either be a mentor, a mentee or new parent/s.
