MALE summer programme 2021 a success - Henderson K. Tittle
Organisation President and Coordinator, Mr Henderson K. Tittle said the initiative kicked off on August 16, 2021, almost a week late from the scheduled start date.
The event had a delayed start
“We were officially supposed to start on the 10th, however, the COVID-19 curfew delayed initiatives until the Government gave the go-ahead, which happened on the 8th of August, 2021."
He said initially the programme was postponed; however, the persistence of parents is what led to the summer camp still happening.
In total, 40 young men ages 7 upwards participated in the programme, along with 10 leaders and guides for a total of 50 persons as part of a ‘discovery’ themed programme, which also included marine and environmental conversation activities.
Mr Tittle said other programmes included life skills, culinary arts, auto mechanics, science, hiking, kayaking, and computer lab sessions. The team also engaged in mangrove planting in Paraquita Bay.
“It was truly empowering and enriching,” for the young men, Mr Tittle said in expressing gratitude to all the persons who came on board to support the initiative for 2021.
Appreciation
“As we bring the curtain down on MALE Summer Camp 2021, we are thankful to God for His protection and to all who in some way made this camp a wonderful success. Once again on behalf of the president, vice president and the executive body of MALE we say thanks and look forward as the journey continues,” the organisation said.
MALE meetings will continue throughout the year, according to Mr Tittle, where parents are being encouraged to let their young male children attend the initiative on Saturdays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Tortola at the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS) in Baughers Bay as well as the Althea Scatiffe Primary School in Road Town, Tortola.
