MALE hosts boys of the Mighty Mighty Scatliffe
President of MALE, Pastor Henderson K. Tittle explained that the programme wants to continue this exercise which he said is gaining momentum, where a class in a particular school gets the day off away from school.
Today, when this news site visited the Save the Seed Energy Centre, some of the boys were on the basketball court doing their drills under the guidance of young mentors, who were showing them the less glamorous, rudimentary aspects of the game.
Deron Noel, one of the three mentors on the basketball court, told this news site that MALE is trying to mentor the children from a young age and show them on the right path.
“So we teach them about respect and different attributes in life where we see there is a need for them. We teach them the fundamentals of basketball where they could have some kind of extracurricular activity in their life and then they will see where they want to take it from there,” he said.
Noel added that the MALE mentors also teach the principles of sportsmanship and respect for the game. “We try to mentor them in accordance with God, who is a big part of this,” said Noel.
Akeem T. Legair, who was in the bowling alley with another group of mentees, spoke of the guidance that he was giving them in terms of the sport of bowling.
“We are trying to give them the guidance and then we hope to get eight persons from every school for a tournament. We are training them as to the proper way to bowl and how to carry themselves,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the boys were given a motivational speech by founder of the Save the Seed Energy Centre Bishop John I. Cline.
