Make use of brass expertise that comes out the schools– Daddy Pitt
Describing the VI as a home of rhythm because it is dominated by the rhythm box, Mr Tuckett said that annually the ESHS produces a significant amount of students with brass skills but the skills are left lying idle.
“We also know that the high school produces thirty brass sections a year, what do those kids do with it after? They don’t have anything to do with the brass after. So we want to be a part of that element that is missing within the BVI,” said Mr Tuckett in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online.
He said that in years gone by the VI was known for producing a lot of brass bands, “and within the brass band you have to play music because you cannot have horns men sitting down there not blowing so you have to play music. So we just want to leave a legacy for whoever comes after us.”
According to the musician and disc jockey, it is somewhat disappointing how music in the VI has evolved over the years since most persons are doing sequences and loops as opposed to the traditional way.
“Most people just do sequences and loops and they just ride on that and they get a good drive and a solid rhythm. For a brass band, if you doing brass and stuff it gets kind of boring so you have to adopt to that and get the use to technology and then find yourself on common ground.”
