Majority of Public Offices reopened after TS Ernesto- PS DaBreo-Lettsome

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen S. DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE has reported a majority of offices within the Public Service have fully reopened, providing services to the public following the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto.

A press release on Friday, August 16, 2024 from the Office of the Deputy Governor said teams from the Public Estate Management Unit within the Deputy Governor’s office were dispatched immediately following Tropical Storm Ernesto’s passing. 

The teams assessed damage across offices and began working to rectify effects that would inhibit timely reopenings. 

Permanent Secretary DaBreo-Lettsome said, “We are carrying out a targeted approach to our recovery efforts and a vast majority of our offices reopened on 15th August to provide vital services to the public. There has been some isolated instances of offices that received moderate internal damage due to flood waters and our teams quickly provided assistance to facilitate the reopening of these offices.”

Meanwhile, Public Estate Manager, Mr. Floyd Stoutt said while there was a quick response to the needs of offices across the Public Service, “the reality is that we will continue to be impacted by systems like these, however, we are developing solutions that prevent us from being unable to provide vital services to the public”. 

Teams continued clearing debris from Crown-owned residential spaces by cutting and removing fallen trees and foreign objects, as well as the restoration of damaged aspective of the respective homes. 

The release added that the Office of the Deputy Governor is providing full support to offices that sustained damage and are experiencing difficulty, in efforts to facilitate a swift return to normal service delivery.

    And people are traveling into the territory and need visas for entry. Which are processed by said department. It’s pretty sad that the Passport Office delayed their opening.

    The electricity guys need help. They are working every day to restore power but I was told too much of them one place at a time and some not doing much. So if this is the case please make smaller groups and send them different locations

    Tbey calling some employees like crazy to come in. Mind eh, the roads blocked, electricity off, some noy driving, thry don't care. Not because you earn enough money to buy a geneator, have electricity, your area clear means the others have the same. You all need to stop
