ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) is reporting major strides made over the past year in strengthening health care services, increasing support of vulnerable households and also improving access to social protection.

In his Christmas message this year, Hon Wheatley stated that, ‘’We have built systems that are reliable, compassionate, and focused on people.’’

He added that looking ahead, the ministry will continue looking at innovative approaches that will help shape a stronger future for the territory.

Hon Wheatley stated that a collaborative effort is needed to enhance the health care system in the Virgin Islands, stating that ‘’Building up better tomorrow requires more than policies and programmes. It requires partnership, patience, and shared responsibility. Government cannot do it alone.’’

Everyone has a role to play

He emphasised that each resident, each family, each organisation have a role to play in the path forward.

While reflecting on the past year, he stated that, ‘’we recognise both the challenges we faced and the progress we have made.’’

Minister Wheatley added that it is important to enter the New Year with gratitude for what has been achieved and determination for what lies ahead.

He called on Virgin Islanders to also consider how their actions today can positively impact future generations.

‘’We have built systems that are reliable, compassionate, and focused on people.’’

Is this why as a local entrepreneur with 3 businesses and a job that i have to submit 4 separate payments to NHI only to receive the benefits of 1 without an incremental increase?

So Why so many mentally deranged persons walking the streets and imprisoned?

The VIP will never accomlish their goals for the hospital with 2 NDP saboteurs leading the agency. No matter what anyone says about how professional they are.  Also the laws need to be changed so that going forward any institution as important as health cannot be held captive to partisan politics. If the memebers cannot not carry out the agenda of the governing party then that party should be given the ability to remove then period. If not we remain in a cycle of stagnation . health is too important.

Your blog is really stupid. Health is more than party, vip or ndp.

That is the point dumb@$$ !! there are 2 NDP in powerful positions on the BVIHSA that will not allow the agenda of the VIP to progress hence the continued problemas with the Hospital. What part of that are you unable to comprehend?

Tell how the NdP board members are not allowing things to happen. Blanket statements do no work anymore.

Yes, dumb@$$ Reading is fundamental. title say "Major strides made to strengthen healthcare in 2025 so that mean the 2 ndp in powerful positions are involved in those major strides. so what you saying is that the major stride is not on the VIP agenda. we need to stop the petty politics when it comes to health.

did they budget to have a cardiologist at the hospital and an echocardiogram (echo) machine at the hospital?

To those calling Reading is Fundamental an idiot let me try to explain that point of view for you. There are members of the NDP on the board. One is currently the President of the party. He is a former chairman of the board. They both made decisions that have caused significant delays in hospital progress. Eg., staff salary review was already completed only to be paid. The former minister give them the money but you what they did with the money paid other bills and give the executive and their sidekicks raises. Now the paying another accounting firm to do a new salary review thus delaying payment to staff. Imagine some staff haven’t seen an increase in ten years. This really needs looking into.
Next those same cronies have issued contracts to family that do not have our citizens best interest at heart. How can someone miles away never live here but thousands of dollars to tell you staff moralities low. You right there and they are constantly telling about their feeling. That’s free, no consultant need. Having consultant in retention, and not even medical or legal. Just family and friends. Hiring an eye specialist that charging a $100.00 for a phone call, won’t tell the price if he come in person.

We do have a cardiologist on staff. In terms of equipment, why buy when they can pay the hospital further up and his team for their services. I can say more but it will be along reading.

Please pay the staff their promised increments and raises. Cost of living increasing and it hard coming everyday and having deal with bad management and disgruntled patients.
