“Major clinic” proposed for East End/Long Look community
“Our resources are stretched financially, physically as well as our human resources…so we have come to a point where we need to have a major clinic instead of two small clinics which are located in East End and Long Swamp,” Hon. Skelton said.
His statement prompted a loud applause from residents who attended a community meeting that was hosted by 8th District Representative Hon. Marlon Penn on May 8, 2012.
According to the Health Minister, the two small clinics cannot serve the needs of the community, and acknowledged that with a fully equipped and modernized medical facility - quick services can be offered to residents.
“Injuries can be treated in a quicker timeframe…so an ambulance from Peebles Hospital would not have to be rushed to the community,” Hon. Skelton pointed out.
In addition to that, he disclosed that extending the clinic hours will be a viable option.
And without giving any other details, the Health Minister added that construction will not start until next year.
