Maduro sounds warning on hospital's treatment of seniors
It was discovered recently that seniors and minors were allegedly being asked to pay for medication at Peebles Hospital even though this was against the laws of the Territory.
He questioned the purpose of the Government and House of Assembly in a situation where, according to him, seniors continue to be charged for medication at the hospital even though it is illegal and persons have spoken up about the issue.
“Healthcare is number one,” Maduro said on his programme aired on May 4, 2013. He further described the reports that seniors were still asked to pay for medication as a joke where persons were being “kicked around like dogs and cats in the field”.
“Where are our representatives? Where are our leaders? What is more important to us than our health?” the host questioned.
Maduro asked that citizens communicate with their representatives and let them know how they felt about the situation as it could grow to become an even more serious matter.
The talk show host also called for the removal of the hospital board or any higher source that would have instituted the mechanism that forced seniors to pay for their medication at Peebles Pospital. He said persons at the hospital can be sued for monies that they didn’t have for the illegal practice.
Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Ronnie W. Skelton recently apologised at a community meeting held in Sea Cows Bay as well as in the House of Assembly for the incidents and assured that this practice was discontinued.
According to Maduro, “If the law has not been changed and it is still in place, those causing this discomfort should pay the penalty, whatever that penalty is.”
“Whether you’re a citizen or Belonger or whatever,” Maduro said, “we all are entitled to life… it’s a universal right and a right that any country should protect.”
“This thing has been happening for over a week, and it should have been stopped the very next day it came to [the Health Minister’s] attention,” Maduro said.

Thats OK cousin Klein will make sure that she alright.
The Minister needs to put an end to this cleansing of BVIslanders out of the services. In fact the Senior Medical Officer now up and down boasting how he got rid of a local Dr, Dr S a next local is next on his hit list, and he have some African buddies from Trinidad to bring in their place. The Health Services' law guarantees that those transferred will be no better off but Big Bird, Ghetto Diva, and Pop-out-eye now plotting to break that law just like how they broke the hospital fee law and put P&P staff on contract and fire the rest.
Its time for Dr. Smith to step in like how he did with the NHI and clean this mess up
