‘Love Our BVI Culture’ Competition Winners announced

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Earlier this year, the Department of Culture hosted its first competition which provided an opportunity to creatively challenge the minds of the Territory’s people in expressing their poetic and photography skills, while fostering a sense of love and appreciation for its culture.

Mrs Toyer Fahie was declared the winner of the adult poetry competition held under the theme ‘Love Our BVI Culture’.

Mrs Fahie’s winning poem was titled “Culture’s Flashback”.

According to Government Information Services (GIS) today, July 12, 2023, Linette Rabsatt was second with “What I Love about BVI Culture”, while Alicia John placed third with an entry entitled “BVI Culture”.

Other winners

Tishauni Hall won the poetry competition in the children’s category with “The Way of Our People”.

Michael Winter Jr won the photography competition with the photograph entitled “Living Where You Vacation.”

      The competition was since around Valentine’s Day this year. They were given the results about a month and it’s only now the winners were given their prizes. Not sure what the delay was but they certainly are a patient bunch. Congratulations to them all.

        Well sah I swear this completion was canceled. No updates nothing….. sad. I hope them gifts was at-least 1k for the long wait….

    I swear this competition was already done with wwwwww. This was advertised in February for Valentine’s Day and only NOW in July the winners receiving their gifts wow. That department needs to do better. The leadership in that department Ms. smith and that Ms. Leonard lady needs to go home ASAP! Sitting down doing nothing!!!!

    i must say this was a good competition, however i felt so sorry for my friends who waited and waited for updates. When they contacted that Department of Culture no one had an answer for them. My advice to the team please organize these competitions better its not a good look on the team....6 months wait.... really for a photo and poem competition?? Not good. kudos to the winners.

    Maybe they should have just given the awardees their gifts and not put this in the media, because the press release should have been back-dated. it's embarrassing that this was advertised since February from what I'm seeing from the comments....
