Lorie Rymer: Major parties stole my ideas!
“Don’t they have ideas of their own?” he asked, during an interview with Virgin Islands News Online yesterday, Monday November 14, 2011. “Some of my ideas are in their manifestos.”
He said his shock came when he heard the former Premier and Leader of the Opposition, Ralph T O’Neal declared that he had plans to establish a fire station in North Sound, Virgin Gorda.
“I mentioned that to residents months before about the old building, that used to house the abattoir to be turned into a fire station...and I heard O’Neal regurgitating my plans verbatim,” Rymer recalled.
Regarding the newly elected Government, the National Democratic Party (NDP), the district candidate, said he had proposed a plan for a golf course in the South Sound, and further expounded to his supporters how it could have been a reality. According to him, he put meat on the proposal “in a logical and chronological order”.
Yet the NDP, Rymer charged, used some of what he outlined during their campaign.“They offered the same three options that I had recommended for the land owners to acquire the land for the golf course,” Rymer revealed.
According to him, the options were landowners could have leased their land, sell or form a partnership with Government. Therefore, he said it was a shock to hear both parties “riding on” his ideas.
“I was utterly surprised...for them to stoop so low. I was just a newcomer seeking a seat. Whereas the Virgin Islands Party had 40 years and the NDP for some years now,” Rymer added.
He was one of five candidates that contested the 9th district seat, where he secured 20 votes out of a possible 1,145.
In addition to that, he thanked the people of the 9th district for the support, as well, as his committee, especially Melvin Clifton.
