Long Trench Chorale sings to victory at Grand Clash of Carolers
Overcast skies failed to put a damper on the turnout as the rains stopped just long enough to allow hundreds that stood on Main Street to witness the many thrilling performances of Christmas carols and fungi music among other selections from the ten finalists in the three categories.
The Transformation International Church Chorale secured the second prize in the Carolers category while the Great Britain Unity Band came in third and the Jost Van Dyke Dynamic Chorale placed fourth.
Hosts for the evening, David Archer and Donna Cline-Thomas kept the crowd entertained and informed along the way during the programme.
Meanwhile, the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Chorale emerged as the victorious Serenaders while the BVI Ports Authority Shining Stars Chorale placed second.
Third Place went to Virgin Gorda St Ursula’s Catholic Youth Serenaders while the Eastern Stars Serenaders tied with Virgin Gorda Church of God of Prophecy Serenaders for fourth place in this category.
The Carrot Bay Serenaders were the lone participant in the Fungi Band Category and were therefore the only prize winners at the end.
Special selections during the programme also came from the young St George’s Liturgical Dancers and the Department of Youth Affairs Music Programme.
The Grand Clash of the Carolers was held in conjunction with the Christmas on Main Street event and followed several earlier rounds of competition held in Cane Garden Bay, Road Town, East End and Virgin Gorda. Entries also came from Anegada and Jost Van Dyke.
The competition was put on by the Social Development Department (SDD) with the objective of touching lives through music especially during the Christmas season.
