Long Look youth accuses police of tasing him 'for no reason'
Yakeem Frett, 23, according to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online, has since been charged with Breach of Curfew and Escape of Lawful Custody.
Tased
In a brief video clip sent to our newsroom, a male police officer is seen firing his taser gun at Frett, who was standing close to the door of a police vehicle.
There was also a female police officer handling Frett, who seemed to be handcuffed but did not appear to be resisting arrest in the 6-second video clip.
A WhatsApp video then began circulating with Frett showing burn marks in his rib area and legs, allegedly from being tased.
“Dawg, I ain’t saying much you know, look what the @#$&% them men do me, tased me up for no #@$%& reason.
“I gone down the road just to fill up a @#$%^ bottle, man come tasing me. Look at my @#$%^ leg you know, Look at that…The mudda &*** going pay watch you going see,” Frett is heard saying.
Matter under investigation
Police Information Officer, Ms Akia L. Thomas confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online that an arrest was made in relation to a curfew breach but said the matter “is currently under investigation; therefore, no further comment at this time.”
Police Commissioner Mr Michael B. Matthews also confirmed to our newsroom on April 8, 2020 that someone had been arrested for Breach of Curfew and that the matter was still under investigation but did not speak specifically to the arrest of Mr Frett, noting that “I have no idea what area” the arrest was made.
“Generally speaking the communities have been supportive and a vast majority compliant but we are still finding those few individuals who think the law and the curfew does not apply to them.
“It’s a sad fact that some individuals (a clear minority) are being reckless and putting us all at risk. My officers will continue to enforce the law as laid down under the Curfew Act and I ask everyone to help and work with us by staying at home and not be tempted after a few days to venture out whilst the curfew still remains,” Mr Matthews wrote.
The 24-hour lockdown in place to prevent community spread of COVID-19 expires on April 16, 2020 but is expected to be extended to April 19, 2020 to allow for a full 14-day quarantine period.
Meanwhile, sources within the RVIPF said Mr Frett was slapped with the additional charge of Escape of Lawful Custody after allegedly trying to run away from police outside of the East End Police Station.
They also revealed that Mr Frett was placed on $5000 bail.

A few months from now you’ll see that this whole Coronavirus was just a set up that all these governments was down with, they simply sold us out
Since y'all in the loop on what's really happening it should be real easy to explain, so go ahead we all waiting to know.
Everyone calls this a conspiracy while everyday it gets closer to reality.
I swear these tin foils be stung to tight to y'all heads. Loosen it up a bit let the blood flow.
Radiation poisoning = Coronavirus
5G= Coronavirus

BOB that’s y u should know and not believe
This is no time to b deceived
And another thing, why am seeing all these flow vehicles when did they become essential ?
Guys don’t forget flow was sold to an American company that’s pushing this same 5G internet
There’s one Cane Garden Bay station wearing glasses from Barbados .
He has no manners regardless if u say morning good evening.
He is rude puts his face like he’s ready to kill for stopping on the roadway to accept a call .
He treats everyone like an animal or convict especially the sons of the soil almost like he’s pushing hate towards us and using too much powers where it not necessary
I have never seen this this happen yet where did the old officers go ?
They was well mannered and helpful .
I have no prob with the police doing their jobs but some of them coming with their attitude from their islands we don’t live Soo here .
I saw the video yesterday and was upsetting u could clearly see the individual approaching the vehicle he got one shot of taser then even though it throw him down while he bawling I saw the officer back back and fired again Soo uncalled for .
I hope that officer is being punished
Yes he was breaking curfew then lock him up or have him pay the fines .
I’m also aware that certain officers are transporting their friends /family to where they they want to go then escort them back home .
This is assisting them to break curfew isn’t it ?
Most of us couldn.t say what any of their faces look like or where they are from.
You must be a seasoned law breaker.
The Police Are Doing Their Job's, What Are Your Exact Expectations Of The Police Officers?....Should They Approached You With A Bright Smile On Their Faces?....
If he was respectful to the police when they approached him maybe they would've allowed him to full his bottle and return home, but no he feels as if he is above the law. No one is exempt from the law my dear... every one gets punished when warranted. And the sad thing is he will do it again and again and complain of injustice every time Sickening!
U sound so stupid Tortola is an island then rude a$$ boys like that one who have no be respect ship and let d police do their job
In another note, if the Health Minister revokes all passes and specifically gives to those who will provide essential duties (solely) half these ppl on the road, wouldn't be on the road. People up and down, through the hills, back roads and small neighboring roads back and forth in personal vehicles and on scooters. I can tell you, there are couple bars still operational during this time. Ridiculous! Whilst you cant lock up everyone, everyone of us can get sick! Most of us did not adhere to the social distancing guidelines given to us during the three days prior to this lockdown, or even before that. I pray that when our borders are opened and our residents or nationals return home that they abide by the rules (or gvt finds an alternative way to keep these ppl in check) that will not have us be submitted to much longer lockdowns. I read an Italian writer's article during the period of the rabid spread of the virus in Italy and the writer simply ended the article like this, "When everybody’s health is at stake, true freedom is to follow instructions". I bid my BVI a safe lockdown and hope we all make it outside together, safely.
However, I do not support police brutality.
The true facts and circumstances of this matter must be investigated thoroughly by police administration.
Police officer are authorized by law, under the police act, to use force that is necessary[not excessive] to execute an arrest, especially in circumstances, where a person is resisting the arrest.
What can happen right in the mean time,,is that COP Mathews should send all the facts to legal team, to investigate this matter.
I will apply the facts to the law,the regulation and the procedures, and determine if the officer acted justifiably,in a democratic society.
Police officers, continue to serve Her Sovereign Lady the queen and continue to cause Her Majesty's Peace to be preserved.
One love BVI
Based on my experience with many of our young people, they do not like to abide by rules and unfortunately, many of them are backed by their peers as well as their parents.
What we see on the road is just a synopsis of what takes place in classrooms.
Too many of our young people are rude and disrespectful.
He should have been home but his rude @$# thinks he is above the law. My peoples of this territory when we criticize the police for doing their job, wtf you are going to say when they start looking away and don't do anything? We have to respect law enforcement officers because we need them to keep our communities safe. If we don't then the Virgin Islands will come like the Wild,Wild West. Please jail his @$# for 1year and charge him $5 000 fine. Also, I believe he threatened the police when he said "the mudda f going pay, wait and see ". The police should not have to put up with that bus. I hope the threat was noted. Officers we law abiding citizens are 100% behind you.
I am not a police officer. I guess you are a supporter of people like that disrespectful jerk. Smfh.
If you take offense with my comment drink some water! Wink Wink!
U and that rude idot in the same boat lesion to your self
I have conducted my own observational investigations into this complaint against police by this rogue and vagabond who is a convicted criminal in our justice system;
I discovered that the police acted justifiably, having reguard to the level of aggression demonstrated by this young man who was resisting arrest, and continue to resist arrest, even after necessary force was administerd lawfully.
The injuries he displayed in picture, were inflicted while he aggressively resisted the lawful arrest.
This man had no justified reason to in public during a curfew. He was on a mission of destruction.
His presence outside his home raised strong suspicion; therefore, his presence outside was a threat the national security of the BVI,so the police had to react, execute an arrest.
I would like to commend the officers involved in this matter, and to thank them for intercepting this man who appeared to be on some evil mission during a curfew.
I commend the officers for protecting somebody's property.
Here is the Oath-of-office taken by police officers under section 13 of the police act,cap 165 of the laws of the BVI, as defined in schedule 1 of the said Act.
[" I (name of officer) do swear/affirm that I will well and truly SERVE OUR SOVEREIGN LADY THE QUEEN, her heirs and successors as a MEMBER of the police force in the territory of the virgin islands without favour or affection, malice or ill-will,and that I will cause her majesty's peace to be preserved, and will PREVENT to the utmost of my power, offences against the same (her majesty's peace) and that during anytime that I do or may hereafter hold any appointment in the police force I will to the best of my knowledge and skill discharge all the duties thereof faithfully ACCORDING TO LAW!"]
Therefore, Police officers serve Our Sovereign lady the Queeb: OK
Police officers in the BVI do not just go about using unnecessary force on the citizens without justification.
This convicted criminal on the records [in public court] did not tell the public his true reason for being outside during curfew, but he come displaying a stun-gun injury.
And some bloggers, because you have your own personal issues with her majesty's police officers, you supporting a convicted criminal, who committed a criminal offence under the law of the BVI.
While we are in lockdown, the police is out on land,on sea, underground and in the air looking out for our welfair, while criminals are out roaming to attack, but you people supporting a convicted criminal.
God save our sovereign lady the queen and god save the her majesty's royal police officers.
One love bvi.
