“The best way of securing jobs on the island for LIME is securing customers and ultimately our customers will decide how many people we [put] to service them,” Mr Phil Bentley, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cable and Wireless, parent company of LIME. Photo: VINO

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The top bracket management of Cable and Wireless and LIME BVI has given the assurance that a significant amount of dollars set aside for the expansion project will see local contractors and persons residing in the Territory benefiting.

“I always say this about jobs, customers pay for our people, if we give good service and we grade our customers we’ll need more people to serve them….The best way of securing jobs on the island for LIME is securing customers and ultimately our customers will decide how many people we to service them,” Mr Phil Bentley, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cable and Wireless, parent company of LIME, said.

At the recent press conference held on August 20, 2014 at Maria’s By the Sea LIME estimated that some 35% of the $7ml expansion project will account for human resources, “All our work is being done by local contractors and workforce,” said Bentley.

General Manager of LIME BVI, Mr Sean Auguste further assured of their position, said that they are true to their word as works which have already commenced are being undertaken by local contractors.

“So the laying of the cables, the works that are on the poles, the laying of the duct as you would have seen some of them in place, in the place where we need to build the man holes and expand the building or in some place construct new buildings all of this is being done by local contractors,” said Mr Auguste.

Of the 7ml project 5ml is said to account for the broadband while $2ml will cater for the 4G network and stations upgrade.

Asked if this amount is sufficient for the company to achieve its objective in terms of the expansion project Mr Bentley said, “It’s all a question of priority and returns really and the fact is the $7ml is a big increase to what we have spent in the last three years here on the Island.”

Well that is good - then money can circulate & remain in the BVI and grow the economy instead of being sent out to build up other countries.

While this sounds very good, I do have my doubts.
