Local firms among 4 submissions shortlisted to bid for WE Ferry Terminal Project
The four submissions are comprised of two international tenders, a joint venture between two local firms, and a standalone local firm.
Local contractors’ participation applauded
Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) in an update during the Fifth Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth House of Assembly on October 31, 2023, said, “Of these nine applicants, four, including two local applicants comprised of one standalone submission and one joint-venture, were shortlisted in the prequalification process.”
The Works Minister was pleased that local construction firms were able to compete and be successful at this level. “I am particularly pleased to highlight that three local firms- one standalone applicant and two firms within a joint-venture application- were successful in the second-round of the prequalification process.
“This underscores the ability of our local contractors to succeed in competitive bidding processes.”
Full tender process to commence ‘in coming weeks’
The RDA in a press release on November 3, 2023, said the four successful short-listed applicants will be invited to bid in the full tender process which will commence in the coming weeks, following approval of the full design set and compilation of required tender documentation.
Previously, the RDA received nine submissions on June 9, 2023, for the prequalification of contractors for the construction phase of the terminal; however, none of the contractors met the requirements for prequalification.
The prequalification process was since re-tendered, with the deadline set for August 31, 2023, of which nine firms once again submitted bids to participate in the pre-qualification process.
The West End Ferry Terminal was the busiest seaport in the Virgin Islands prior to it being damaged by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
Forty-one percent of sea arrivals and thirty-one percent of all arrivals into the Territory were processed through West End in 2016.

Too broke to clean up the the old vehicle, and gabbage all over this British Overseas Territory, namely, British Virgin Islands. Not too busy going, sending, spending large amount of money on unnecessary ventures, and fun-filled activities. Too busy framing, telling your your narrative, and blaming others for your own incompetent failure to prioritize the order of important needs, but never to busy to to tell lies, and make other excuses about thing that are overlooked in favor of those that make the current Premier, his ministerial team, and other minority groups of interest look good.
If in fact we now have a shortage of cash available, and we cannot at this time pay government workers, teacher, and health workers included, how come are we able to speed ahead with the West End World Class Ferry Terminal? Where is this secret money coming from, Premier, deputy Premier, and other leaders. We the people need to be told. We are your boss, you claimed that you are our servants, but to the contrary, you are behaving as though, you are the boss, same was the former Premier
