Local author lauded for overcoming obstacles with new book, ‘Triumph’
The aptly named ‘Triumph’ A collection of Christian poetry, is indeed a labour of love in the truest sense of the word, especially considering the fact that it has been more than a decade in the making.
Mr Vanterpool has notably overcome epileptic seizures, which he has suffered from the age of two, in compiling the work.
Opposition Leader and head of the Virgin Islands Party Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE congratulated Mr Vanterpool on producing a very good effort and encouraged him to continue in similar vein.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Culture, Dr Marcia Potter said lately there has been an emergence of a number of published literature by local writers, many of which speak to the history and culture of the Virgin Islands.
Mr Vanterpool’s anthology was reportedly the second that fell within the religious genre of books for this year. His faith and belief as a staunch Methodist were credited for assisting in his journey.
Dr Potter said she felt the book was one which readers of all ages could relate to and said she was inspired in reading it. “He is truly a treasure, not only to his family, but to Anegada and all of us in the Virgin Islands,” Dr Potter remarked.
Meanwhile, the President of HLSCC, Dr Karl Dawson in introducing the author, said Terrence was a true gift and noted that the two had a mutual association in the Methodist church and their common faith.
“I think that it’s so fitting that the name of this first volume should be Triumph,” Dr Dawson said, “I think it is fitting that someone who has had challenges, has not let those challenges in any way hold you back.”
Copies of the book were donated to the Virgin Islands Studies Unit of the HLSCC as well as the archives and local library.
