LIME axes 20 workers in Antigua; more to go in the VI
According to the Antigua Observer Deputy General Secretary of the Antigua & Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU), Chester Hughes said the affected staff received the letters yesterday, via email and that the union is now looking at a course of redress after employees informed the bargaining agent.
The email reportedly indicated that the workers will be paid one month’s notice and severance.
The deputy general secretary said he has not seen a copy of the letter but employees, who were on day off or would have called in sick, were terminated.
Mr. Hughes told the Antigua Observer that the position the telecommunications company took is rather unfortunate, especially given the upcoming Christmas season.
“So here it is you are terminating your established employees and you are recruiting rookies who cannot serve the public properly. This company is now the ‘Grinch that Stole Christmas’ from employees that would have caused that company to make profits enough to buy another company by the name of Columbus Communication and now those employees are being put out to pasture during the Yuletide season,” he said according to the Antigua Observer.
LIME in the Virgin Islands: are there more to go?
It is also reported that more LIME workers up to an additional four to five could be sacked in the Virgin Islands added to others whose jobs have become redundant and have been let go over the past four years. In addition LIME has replaced their VI long service Manager Sean L. Auguste. Following his ouster LIME BVI handed pink slip to its Head of Sales and Services Ken Guiste.
The status of their Marketing Manager and Head of Corporate Communications Kareem-Nelson Hull remains unclear, as word from inside the company is there are plans afoot to make changes within this department.
Our news room will keep you updated as LIME downsize and restructure as FLOW takes over.

2. Dont you realise that the only way you get overseas calls and data with Digicel, and CCT, is via the C&W external communications? Whatever they say, they still have to pay C&W for bandwidth out of here.
