Like this NDP Gov’t gone mad!- Radio caller
The caller was speaking on the ‘Speak Out BVI’ radio show aired live on ZBVI 780AM on Tuesday February 9, 2015. The show was hosted by Doug Wheatley and had as guests Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru and Winston E. Nibbs aka La Fontey.
The NDP government has been on blast recently from the millions in overspending on the controversial ports project, implementing of National Health Insurance while ignoring the suggestions of many, owing many contractors and musicians for months, failing to increase the minimum wage, depleting the Consolidated Fund while saying the country is not broke but yet finding money to subsidise an airline for $7M that ironically owes them money and even purchasing a $92,500.00 Cadillac Escalade for Premier Dr The Hon D. Orlando Smith.
“Sowande this reminds me when we marched when the whole Biwater thing was going on with the VIP Government with the lack of transparency and the whole craziness that was going on. This even seems worse Sowande.
“This NDP government that I voted in, like this Government like they gone mad. I don’t think they are being honest with the people. I think that this country for a little while is seriously in some debt that they are not letting us know,” the caller lamented.
The caller further said he now sees that the June 8, 2015 snap election was purposely done because Government was seeing what some people couldn’t see ahead. According to him, some people were hinting of disaster ahead but now it is coming to past.
NDP Gov’t deceitful
The caller labeled the NDP administration as deceitful and said it was a shame that the masses are refusing to call a spade a spade.
“I think that this government is very deceitful. They are pulling wool over our eyes and like people are blinded [because] although things are smacking them right in their face, right in their wallet, they are still defending this Government Sowande. It seems like this Government can’t do no wrong and they are doing a lot of wrongs.”
He was of the opinion that Government is building the territory in an unsustainable fashion and that it seems not to care.
“They want to build airport, huge airport, huge hospital, everything they want to do big big like they are in America or one of these big continents. We are a small little territory, and I don’t know where they BVI going with all this speed gentlemen. Over three and something million dollars in the budget for this small territory. That should be more than enough to run this country gentlemen. Something is seriously wrong and the people here in the BVI just sit and wait till the next election…Sowande I tired of this Government. I tired of how they treating the people. I tired of how they treating the Opposition. They are fooling us. We are blinded and we can’t see the truth. They are very deceitful and they are developing the country for the elite people in this country.”
Ready to march
Continuing, the caller said the people were tricked into believing that the NDP had changed from the last time they were “kicked” out of office. He said he has grown tired of the government he helped to vote in and was now prepared to take a stance against them.
“They have always been this type of Government, even when they were kicked out. They are an elitist Government. They have been that way and they had never changed…they say they are the new NDP but they are not.
“And Sowande, when you guys ready to march you guys let me know. This is madness.”
Caller applauded
Meanwhile, Winston E. Nibbs aka La Fontey likened the NDP to the “Emperor without clothes” in supporting the caller’s view that people are seeing things that are not there.
At that time another person called in to the show in support of the previous caller.
“I just want to comment on the caller just now. I got to applaud him. I was actually waiting for someone to call in to you to mention this situation about this Government,” the female caller stated.
Mr Natalio D. Wheatley Sowande then said he concurred with a lot of the views that the caller shared.
“Unfortunately, the National Democratic Party has their supporters and I don’t fault them for that. They have a right to support whatever group they would like to support but we the people will have to be able to see things clearly despite the party that we want to support or despite the people who we might like. We have to come to grips with the reality of the situation, which is that things are not going well right now.”

He further challenged us in recognizing that, “The opposite of courage is even worst, it is indifference. Indifference to evil is more invidious than evil itself precisely because indifference to evil and wrongdoing is much more contagious. Courage is the will to think critically, courage to love across the broad, courage to hope and to never allow despair to paralyze us.”
Allowing an “accused” Government to commission their own Audit is “Highly Unethical” and “Utterly Disrespectful” to our People. It is like allowing “Bernie Madoff” to commission his own audit- and after “careful review,” presents his “findings” to the Public. “What quietly concealed arrogance and utter disrespect!”
Their approach vigorously needs to be challenged in the public square. Should not be allowed to happen, absolutely not. Are our elected representatives becoming “political gangsters” now, throwing their fault illusion of power around? They can only be as “great” as the People would allow. Let us please remind them. And at the rate they are going, our TRUST has sunk with the “pilings” at the PIER.
Government of Exclusion- making decisions in the dark behind closed doors with utter disregards to due process. And now they come in front the people with such narcissistic arrogance and disrespect!
These are particularly trying times in the Virgin Islands in terms of direction and economic growth through various developments. However, our country has reach critical mass with “unethical behaviors” and needs a drastic paradigm shift- starting from our leaders down- in all sectors.
A country “devoid” of a comprehensive strategic vision and plans (BluePrints) for sustainable economic growth and prosperity of the country, can “tempted” our leaders to embrace the dark-side of leadership; and in turn, cause all of us to eventually fall into a “dark pit” of suffering, under a false sense of development with prosperity for all (sorry, some). Similarly, we must be mindful of how the purse and its debts are exponentially growing bigger and bigger with every new project, and there possible consequences.
The only way to avoid any shortcomings moving forward, is to step back and reassess our direction. Develop “succession plans” that are agreed upon through inclusion of the democratic process, so regardless of which Government is at the helm, there can be no abuse solely by access-and-legitimacy. In addition, we need to develop and enforce governmental and corporate “transparency” legislation” in order to hold these entities accountable for questionable and misguided actions. Likewise, we need whistle-blower’s protection laws in order to expose wrongdoings in all sectors.
More than ever before, we need to embrace Hope and Faith in our country. The Book of Hebrews says, “Faith is the substance of things hope for; the evidence of things not seen.”
We also haven't gotten any documented paperwork to back up claims so it could be much worse than they leading on.
We need to summon the courage and do like they did in the states and Occupy the Government Complex until the Governor or UK see we are not joking. All the ministers know they doing wrong look at all the increased security around thier offices and them personally.
Never before was such security needed, but when you doing wrong you need something to hide behind.
