Leverick Bay Poker Run founder Nick R. Willis has passed

LEVERICK BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI- The boating community and the many fans of the popular Leverick Bay Poker Run have been thrown into a state of mourning with the news that the event founder, Nick R. Willis, has died.

His passing was announced on the Leverick Bay Poker Run Facebook page today, January 27, 2021.

Mr Willis was a well known and well loved figure in the Virgin Islands, where he made his home many years ago.

Poker Run Founder

The Leverick Bay Poker Run, which he founded with his wife Monica in 2002, has raised thousands of dollars for local charity over the years.

The boating event itself has been a staple on the Virgin Islands tourism calendar and attracts a huge following every time it is held.

While most of the participating boats are from Tortola, boats have entered the charity event from Puerto Rico, United States Virgin Islands, Antigua and Anguilla.

Condolences & Tributes

Many persons have since taken to Facebook to express their condolences to the family on his passing, as well as reflect on the man they knew and how much he inspired them.

The Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online extend sincere condolences to the family, friends and associates of the late Nick R. Willis.

    Great that Nick is getting the recognition that he deserves. He tried hard to make a fun event a money maker for Virgin Gorda and the charities that were supported from this event. from my many years of knowing Nick, I am truly sad at his passing.

    Big Nick as I affectionately called him was truly a great guy
    I've enjoyed every moment working on the poker run with him and his wife.
    He has made this even popular in Miami and other poker run
    states in the USA and the Caribbean. he will be truly missed,

    When I arrived in the BVI in 2008 Nick and Monica really made me feel welcome.
    He was a kind soul. May he Rest In Peace.

    Just seen sad news, we were best mates back in the 70s Torquay England. He showed me how to have a good time in the clubs after leaving the Forces...seems like it was his life's work
