Leon King guilty of money laundering!
Attorney at Law and former Magistrate Mrs. Valerie Stephens-Gordon represented King and pleaded with Magistrate Dr. John for mercy for her client. She presented the fact that he had been on remand at Her Majesty's Prison for over two years, noting the fact that he was offered bail for this offense but it was suspended consequent of another matter that was before his name.
She also noted that the inability to provide financially and emotionally for his young daughter has had serious effects on both King and his child. He had no previous convictions and up to the time of arrest was the Manager of a business in Cane Garden Bay.
King has three days to pay the fine or in default will have to spend three years in prison.
King, 33, previously pleaded not guilty to acquisition, possession or use of the proceeds of criminal conduct which was allegedly committed on January 24, 2012.
The offence allegedly occurred near Frenchman’s Cay on a small vessel named "Overeasy". The boat was searched and a black bag containing over $136,000 was allegedly found. King was the sole occupant of the vessel at the time.
He was initially granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a cash component of $100,000. Bail was later reduced to $40,000.
He remains incarcerated on a similar but unrelated matter. The matter will next be heard on March 12, 2015.
