ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Financial Investigation Agency, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Attorney General’s Chambers underwent training to strengthen their capabilities in financial investigations.

The cohort of law enforcement officers and officials participated in a specialist UK-funded two-week training course, delivered by the UK’s National Crime Agency Proceeds of Crime Centre from November 26 to December 6, 2024.

They completed two courses focusing on financial investigation, and asset restraint and confiscation. Financial investigation plays a crucial role in combatting illicit finance and ensuring the Virgin Islands meets international standards, a press release on December 13, 2024 said.

Governor Daniel Pruce said, “This essential training has served as an opportunity to collaborate with the UK, and highlights our commitment to supporting the Foreign Secretary’s campaign to crack down on corruption and illicit finance. I am grateful for the NCA’s support in delivering this crucial step in protecting the Virgin Islands from the challenges faced by illicit finance.”

Congratulations. Now go out Act and be seen to be Acting within the legal aspects of the law at ALL times. And while so doing, help develop a culture where the corrupt officer fears the incorruptible officer and not the other way around. Be Brave.

Great that the Mother Country is helping when we have such terrible problems with lawlessness and wholesale corruption. People might think that doesn't matter but that is the source of all the guns, and why we have such terrible roads and other infrastructure. It's embarrassing to have visitors from other Caribbean islands given how terrible the place looks.

OTOH, if they can track down the money that disappeared into various pockets, there should be more money for education and healthcare.
