Late legislator & first local CoP Vernon E. Malone lies in state

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands' first local Commissioner of Police and late legislator (2007-2011) Vernon E. Malone is lying in state at the House of Assembly (HoA) Chambers in Road Town, the Capital City, today, Thursday, June 20, 2024.

The late son of the soil, originally from Long Look, died on May 4, 2024, at Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital. He is survived by his wife Icis and son Malcolm.

The public can view the body of the late legislator and attorney from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM today.

A man of courage

The former teacher and real estate owner will have an official funeral on Saturday, June 22, 2024, starting with a procession from 8:30 AM from the HoA to the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

The pre-service will commence at 9:00 AM and the funeral service at 10:00 AM.

Via a special resolution brought before the HoA on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, to pay tribute and honour Mr Malone's works and contribution to nation-building, current members of the HoA praised the fallen legislator for his courage, his commitment to law and order and for speaking truth to power on many issues.

His final resting place on Saturday will be at the family burial grounds in Brewers Bay, on Tortola.

      @Seriously. He did look very different in that casket indeed. But then again, Mr. Malone wasn't really seen by the public at large for a long time.

        I have respect for the man, his family and his accomplishments but he looked so unlike himself especially around the mouth that they should have had a simple closed casket service and let it be done!
