Last chance for Carifta qualification this weekend!


The Meet will include three sessions over the two days of competition and will see, in addition to athletes on clubs from Tortola and Virgin Gorda, participants from St. Thomas and St. Croix.
According to the BVIAA, the U17 Boys and Girls divisions will see the hottest competition in the 100, 200 and 400m as well as the U20 Girls sprints, with competition in both U17 and U20 divisions starting at 5:30 P.M. on Friday, including the 100m semis and finals, the 400m heats and 1500m finals on the track.
The Javelin Throw, High Jump and Triple Jumps, and the first two events of the Pentathlon, will also be contested.
Preliminary competitions on Saturday will run from 9:45 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. including the 200m heats and the Shot Put finals. Finals for the Discus Throw, Long Jump, 200, 800 and 400m, will begin at 4 P.M.
The U17 Girls 400m final on Saturday evening will determine who gets a spot on the 4x400m relay, which already has three members with times of 55.98, 56.49 and 56.71.
This year’s Carifta Games, which began in Barbados in 1972, will be held in Nassau, Bahamas, March 30-April 1, 2013.
The Territory’s athletes won a record five medals last year and 25 medals have been earned in the championships since 1978.
