ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Information coming into Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) is that mass confusion has erupted outside the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital where persons have assembled to get tested for COVID-19.

With some 480 confirmed active cases of the virus present in the territory as of July 5, 2021, testing sites have been scheduled with more announcements scheduled for today.

So far persons have turned out in droves to the lone public hospital on Tortola where a disorganised crowd was photographed this afternoon.

An eyewitness described the situation as confusing with hundreds of persons getting agitated, "it's crazy up there… like persons want to fight.”

Our news centre is also aware of similar complaints from persons on social media.

VINO reached out to the acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronald E. Georges and Health Minister Hon Carvin Malone (AL) for comments; however, no response was received up to publication time.

Everybody who has not been vaccinated should be required to stay at home until the numbers are back down. Whilst vaccinated persons might get the virus, they will not get very ill. The concern is that the hospital will not be able to cope with all the non-vaccinated people that will need treatment.

So did they really get all those people that spent some time standing in the hot sun, to just give up and go home?? Test all of them, let's hear the new number, and that should send people running for the unapproved vax.
    • @ wondering (06/07/2021, 19:43) Like (2) Dislike (8) Reply
It is NOT an “unapproved vax”. Due to the emergent Covid pandemic, the vaccines were approved on an emergency basis.
As some people here are just discovering now, it IS AN EMERGENCY.
As the head of the NIH in Bethesda Md, Dr. Francis Collins said, the only corners that were cut in developing these much vaccines

WTF?! Some of these tests are being done TWO WEEKS after the event where people could have caught the virus..... No wonder we have a COVID outbreak in the BVI!

Why would they want testing? Do they have symptoms? If not there is no point because you could walk out of your negative test and catch it immediately. Best get vaccinated and stay low.

Do you think the 480 cases are only non or partially vaccinated people?? People, this so called “vaccine” is not the cure for coronavirus. The vaccine doesn’t prevent you from getting the virus. It doesn’t prevent you from transmitting it so whether someone is vaccinated or not we all are potential carriers. Stop posting nonsense. The 2 nurses that are infected were both fully vaccinated.

The vaccine doesn’t stop you from getting COVID, but it does greatly reduce the symptoms. Common sense.

Wait until the bodies start piling up and you’ll change your mind about the vaccine.

We’re not talking about symptoms we’re talking about the number of active covid 19 cases in the territory. Stop trying to brainwash people

If covid is so contagious that large crowds are frowned upon, does it make sense to gather in large crowds to get tested
  • baba (06/07/2021, 19:26) Like (23) Dislike (9) Reply
This is some real comical behavior. You guys are worried/ afraid of Covid yet won’t get vaccinated. Oh yeah, yeah it’s not a cure but it’s sure the best bet we have to get out of this. Remember we get the flu shot too (it’s not a cure).
The government should really just open up the economy without any curfew or other curbing mechanisms. It’s obvious you guys are ok with the situation as is. So let is forge ahead with no vaccines and give the majority of the B.V.I what they want. A society where everyone does whatever they want.

I agree 100%. This is BVI culture at its finest. Do what you want when you want ignoring any consequences or impacts to your fellow citizens. Kinda like scooter riders are BVI culture too.

This is some humans all over the world. What BVI culture? Check cayman, scooter accidents are regular - is that because BVI culture down there? Some of you say the most stupid things just for talking sake.

Really now? No fault of those people.!What would you expect if all were told to come at the same time? Health officials should know to stagger the time for those testing. Once you called, you were told come for 1. Many smart persons saw the mess and left.

People at the hospital trying to get covid tests are not adhering to protocols. They need to be mindful of the reason they are there and stop crowding each other. I suspect the security guards are afraid to go near them.
