GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- Joemal Lafleur brought the crowd at Greenland Recreation Ground on Tortola, alive with his explosive innings as he led Royal Knights to a winning total against RTW in the final of the NAGICO sponsored BVI cricket Association (BVICA) T20 Tournament on Sunday, July 21, 2019.

Man of the Match, Lafleur blasted 9 sixes and 8 fours on his way to a 38-ball 98 as Royal Knights, sent to bat by RTW, amassed 280 for 7 off their allotted 20 overs.

The Knights’ skipper was unlucky to have lost his wicket (bowled by Joel Williams) with just 2 runs away from what would have been a well-deserved century.

MVP of the Tournament, Richard Fredricks made a solid 43 from 19 balls while middle order batsman Anthony Slowley made a quick fire 44 (15 balls).

Facing a daunting target, RTW’s batsmen could not deliver the goods against the Knights’ attack led by Reno Mitteholzer, who had opener Curtis Jack removed without scoring.

Sylvestor Mitchel would; however, give RTW some hope before he became one of Mitteholzer’s 4 scalps while on 76. His innings lasted for 50 balls and included 6 sixes and 8 fours.

RTW were on 179 for 7 when their 20 overs expired, giving Royal Knights victory by 101 runs.

Royal Knights pocketed $2500 for winning the tournament while RTW received $1500 as Runners up.

Cavaliers vs Grenada

Earlier, Cavaliers overcame Grenada CC by 2 wickets in the third place game.

Sent to bat, Grenada made 189 for 7 and Cavaliers responded with 190 for 8 off 19.3 overs.

Gary Pierre Prince top scored for Grenada with 67 from 30 balls while bowler Avishkar Sewkarran of Cavaliers had impressive figures of 4 overs, 9 runs, 3 wickets.

Sewkarran then returned with the bat to score 67 to help Cavaliers successfully chase down the target.

Royston Duggin was not out on 35 when victory was achieved.

Cavaliers received a cheque for $500 for their third place win.

The trophy for the competition was named in honour of former premier and former BVICA president, Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE.

Sponsors of the tournament included Nagico Insurances and Flow.
