ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – When given the chance to briefly say a few words to parents, children and Rotary family present at the Rotary Club of Road Town's Kiddies Fiesta, Chairman of the BVI Festivals and Fairs Committee (BVIF&FC) Mr Marvin ‘MB’ Blyden acknowledged the massive turnout of fathers at the event.

That recognition could not have been missed by anyone as indeed the male presence at the Kiddies Fiesta was super strong rivaling that of women. Mr Blyden said that was a signal that fathers and men in general residing in the Virgin Islands (VI) are responding well to the call for them to take up their role in society and more so in the lives of their children.

Yesterday July 26, 2014 was the first time that the Kiddies Fiesta was staged with a difference - eliminating the children’s parade aspect. And according the Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn it was one of the largest with the widest range of activities for children.

The decision not to have the parade was made by the Rotary Club of Road Town under incoming President Mr Shan Mohamed. “Kiddies Fiesta is one of the biggest events on our annual calendar and it is solely dedicated to children because we always understood the need to provide events that will impact the community in a positive way,” he said at the activity.

He also noted that it is the only event that is 100% for children to be held annually during the Festival season of the Virgin Islands. “This year being the 60th emancipation celebrations, the club felt the need to expand the celebrations to include more rides, more games and more fun for the entire family,” he said.

More importantly for the Club and recognized by Hon Walwyn was the fact that they took a decision to ease the financial burden of families for the new school year by distributing free of cost, 300 back packs filled with a number of school and other items to children from across the Territory at the Kiddies Fiesta.

“We understand that these are challenging times economically and these school supplies will go a long way to easing the financial burden of parents,” said Mr Mohamed. He pledged that they will continue to give back to the community and the funds raised are used to assist in this regard.

The day was filled with lots of activities with water and other rides and slides for children, mini golf course, hoola hoop dancing, live musical entertainment by VIBE, mini basket ball, lots to eat and drink and much more.

Blessings, Honour and Nuff Respect to every Man in the VI who take the time, money and energy to be there for their child or children, irrespective of the relationship with the mother. It's an investment in life that comes from God through you with priceless (win-win) returns for all.

It is good to those dads who spend that quality time with their children and put their children to the forefront. But then there are those dads who have no time for their kids but have time for other men children and don't even give a red copper cent to even buy a rice grane to feed their own children but can be seen up and down with other people and their children and leaving their own chidlren without and giving to others. Fathers step up to the plate and support and spend the quality time that is needed with you children. Don't wait until someone else have to step in and then you have all sorts of things to say.
