King Charles III hails VI/UK's ‘ever-growing cooperation’ on 'important global issues'
King Charles III, in his letter to the Governor of the Virgin Islands, Daniel Pruce, said he and his wife have “great pleasure” in sending heartfelt congratulations to Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and the people of the Virgin Islands as they celebrate the special occasion.
“I value the ever-growing cooperation between us on important global issues. particularly ocean protection and addressing climate change, which are crucial for future generations and also for people today,” King Charles III stated.
King hails ‘collaboration’
The King also said he was pleased to learn of the important collaboration by the UK and VI through the Darwin Plus Programme with organisations including the National Parks Trust, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, Beyond the Reef and Good Moon Farm.
“I commend this vital work which protects biodiversity and improves the Territory's resilience to climate change.”
During Virgin Islands Day, the territory’s flag was hoisted over the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London.
Special Envoy of the Premier, E. Benito Wheatley, stated in a published commentary on Friday, July 5, 2024, that the new Labour Government must also not limit the scope of their engagement with the other OTs, particularly in the Caribbean, to company transparency, corporate taxation, security, and marine biodiversity.
“To do so would be to repeat the mistake of the Conservatives who narrowly focused on these issues and overlooked the islands as communities of real people living normal lives, who have their own daily challenges as well as aspirations for themselves and their societies,” Mr E. Benito Wheatley wrote.
