King Andrew?! Hon Fahie crowned King of Celebrity Shootout
Hon Fahie was crowned King of Celebrity Shootout when the King of the Courts Championships was held at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Saturday, June 20, 2020.
Winning the King of Kings crown was former national basketball player, Jason A. Edwin, who eliminated arch-rival Ray D. Victor along the way to the championship before disposing of Shamoii A. Dagou.
Legislators’ grudge match
An unplanned grudge match among legislators also took place, with Deputy Speaker Hon Neville A. Smith (AL), Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) comprising a team from the East against Premier Fahie, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) and Opposition Member Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) making up a team from the West.
The team from the East edged their counterparts from the West by a single point.
King Andrew!
The Celebrity Shootout, which turned out to be an entertaining affair, saw participation from former basketball players, social activists, entertainers, legislators, civil servants and contractors.
Making it to the championship was Premier Fahie and Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr.
In the championship round, the two men were deadlocked in battle after both making one shot per rack. The clash boiled down to a tie-breaker at the top of the key and it was Premier Fahie who came out with crown and cape as the King of Celebrity Shootout.
King of Kings
The King of the Courts 3-Pointer Shootout Championships saw 6 shooters battling it out in a first-round elimination. They included Demari Parilllon of District 1-2; Jason A. Edwin of District 3, Kalique Brewley of District 4- 5, Shamoii A. Dagou of District 6, Ray D. Victor of District 7-8 and Javon Demmings of District 9.
Parillon and Brewley, the two youngest shooters in the field, were eliminated in the first round, which got off to a nervous start.
Edwin eliminates rival Victor
The second round saw Edwin eliminating Victor. The two had their trash talking leading up to the shootout; however, it was Edwin with the last say as he comfortable won with two racks to spare, having achieved victory after sinking the 4-point king ball.
Meanwhile, Demming was knockout in the second round by Dagou.
Edwin to rep VI @ Caribbean C/ships
In the final; however, Edwin showed why he was a pro player and represented both the US Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands as he held his composure to be crowned King of Kings.
Edwin has earned the right to represent the Virgin Islands in the King of the Courts Caribbean Championships to hosted in the Territory at a date yet to be announced.
Spectacular night
According to one of the promoters, Steve E. Parillon, the night was an entertaining one and it was also followed via live streaming. “For a first time event, I think it was very spectacular,” Mr Parillon told Virgin Islands News Online.
He said the plan is to have other countries crown their Shootout King so they can qualify for the Caribbean championships.
Mr Parillon also said an all-star night is being planned for July and more information will be released soon.
He also thanked the patrons and everyone who supported, including sponsors JTV, Multi-Purpose Sports, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, BVI Basketball Federation, District Representatives, and his team members.
