Kevin 'OJ' Smith comes out swinging against Hon Fraser
With the NDP already being criticised of creating a ‘culture of disrespect’ during their three and a half years in office, it did not come as a surprise to many when members, including Hon Myron V. Walwyn, sought to belittle Opposition members and even hurled serious allegations against one member.
Smith, who was defeated by Hon Fraser in the Third District at the 2011 General Elections, took on the antics of a preacher as he attempted to trample Hon Fraser who he accused of asking the people of the Virgin Islands (VI) not to judge him by his past.
Bitter by defeat?
As muttered by a bystander at the NDP Prep Rally last night May 6, 2015, "He really bitter because Fraser whoop he @$$ last time, like he going try to strip that big man from his beard right down to his toe nail, just to get in power, but he need to go sit down back in Digicel because it ain't going happen by ripping up nobody, you got to work diligently to get big position," said a man as he tapped our reporter on the shoulder and said, "put that deh”.
In his dramatic preacher man postures, Mr Smith declared he is a man that can be judged by his records but wasn’t sure about Hon Fraser’s. "I want to say to you that the past does matter, your record matters and this is a team that stands upon its records but the leader of the Virgin Islands Party team would have you believe that records don't count. In his own words he said, don't judge me about my past."
He continued, "you would have us forget that you put street lights around that round-about and created an international traffic hazard, you would have us forget that the sewage in Road Town went amok, under your ministry, you would have us forget that you are the one who did not fix the water distribution system in the BVI and opted to bring in BiWater..."
Laying out what boasted as a glowing record on his part, Mr Smith stated that when he took up the position at the post office he doubled the revenue there. "When the Premier called upon me to take office at Trade I was able to expedite and increase the rate at which you fellow citizens of the Virgin Islands were able to get a trade licence - that's a fact. I was able to set up the National Business Bureau that is giving support and lending to small businesses in this territory.... ladies and gentlemen your record matters, your past counts."
Mr Smith credited the NDP for giving him the opportunity to become the youngest Postmaster General in the Region at the age of 33. "I am a living testimony that they provide (NDP) opportunity and encourage young people to take the helm of our country's future," Mr Smith said.
Efforts to draw a comment from Hon Fraser were futile at the time of publication.
Walwyn’s attacks
Hon Fraser was also the target of attack by Hon Myron V. Walwyn who he said, "District Three, we will deal with you this time, I know they kicked up about the voters' registration card because the dead people they had couldn't vote this time but we on to you this time and OJ Smith will take you out."
He also urged the electorate not to vote for the VIP as a vote for that party was a vote for Hon Fraser as Premier.
Throwing his darts at senior Virgin Islands Party member Hon Andrew A. Fahie, Walwyn said he found it amazing that people with the most indiscretion are the ones who attack other people. "I can say I’ve been honest in all my dealings as a politician and as a businessman.... I can say with confidence that no member of the NDP has been sought after in relations to money laundering."
Hon Fahie also could not be immediately reached for a response.

So why so many BVISLANDERS were victimized again? BVISLANDERS like C.O'neal, V.O'neal, K.Fraser, The man who used to be in Immigration, The PWD Dr. The list goes on, but opportunity should not be for a chosen few because of political affiliation. Be careful of the message you are sending to the youths of this country and the wider caribbean and the world.
As for Mr "OJ" Smith, what can be said of him? Really, really! While you might have good reason to slam the Honourable Fraser, you don't even say what you are going to do for the people of the 3rd and the country. Get of your high horse. Stop acting so mighty, you sound like a wind bag!
