Kenneth K.M Dawson wins Rotary-Delta Car Raffle

“It’s unbelievable I’m still trying to come to grips with it,” an excited Dawson told Virgin Islands News Online.
Surprised at his win
Dawson, who is a banker by profession, said at the time of the draw, he was spreading the Christmas cheer in the West End community.
“No I didn’t [expect to win], I heard that they were having the drawing in the evening but I didn’t think about it at all. As a matter of fact, I was out caroling. I have a vehicle that is presently on the bump, I was at a point where I was trying to make a decision whether to keep it or to move on, so I think the decision has been made now.”
He disclosed that while this is not his first win, this is the first of this magnitude.
“I just can’t believe it, because you always buy these tickets and you never win. I am very grateful,” he remarked, adding that his ticket was bought at Nagico.
In addition, he will also receive one full tank of gas from Delta.
Public’s participation commendable
Meanwhile, President of the Rotary Club, Nelcia St. Jean commended the public for always supporting the club’s initiatives.
“Participation was really good, obviously on the last day people came out and bought tickets more, it’s generally well supported by the community as everyone wants to win a car, plus it goes back into the community.”
When questioned on other particulars such as the amount of tickets sold, she said that she was not in a position to state as it was too soon after the drawing and the tabulations had not been made.
Other winners
Three persons also received prizes, one received a $100 gift certificate for a full body massage from Journey’s Health spa, another a $100 gift certificate for a meal at Brandy Wine Restaurant, and the final one was a $150 gift certificate from the House of Luxury.
Their tickets also went back into the barrel for the final draw.
One of the partners of the raffle, Delta Petroleum, gave customers who purchased $30 and above worth of gas a free ticket to the draw, making it a total of 1,500.
“In addition to that, today we also gave $150 customers $2,000 worth of gas, so we had all that promotion leading up to that final draw tonight. It’s just a matter of making them feel part of the family, I don’t think there is any way you can measure success or giving to a customer,” Delta Petroleum’s Regional Chief Accountant Andrew J. Vasconcellos stated.
The car’s estimated value is $34,000.
Proceeds from the raffle will be going towards educational advancement, a dialysis machine for Peebles Hospital as well as bus shelters.
The partners of the raffle included Tortola Auto Group, FLOW and NAGICO Insurance.
