KATS looking for kids to climb aboard!
According to Executive Director Chris Ghiorse, “there are a few slots remaining for the twelve session sailing programme every Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00. We’re holding signups this Saturday November 12, at the KATS container past the Yacht Club and VISAR base at Cleaning Hole (Road Reef Marina).”
Ghiorse also commented that any child who has passed the KATS Basic Sea Skills Programme is eligible to come out and enjoy the fun of learning to sail onboard one of the Laser sailboats in the KATS fleet.
In keeping with the high levels of safety kept by the organisation, all kids must have parental permission and of course come with the fee of $100 for twelve sessions; sponsorship support may be available.
The KATS sailing programme aims not only to teach sailing, but to build on a student’s sea safety skills learned in the basic programme.
The goal of KATS sailing is to encourage these students to then move onto the IC 24’s.
As an encouragement to the kids, Ghiorse reflected that “The Annual Premier Cup is a one-design formatted event held on IC 24’s here in the BVI. It is the largest youth team sailing event in the Caribbean.”
The encouragement of being able to participate in events such as these should be more than enough to wet the taste buds or indeed just be able to safely and competently enjoy the sea around the BVI an incentive to get involved.
