Karia J. Christopher jokes it was a 'mistake' to reveal intentions to enter politics
Speaking on the Thursday, May 19, 2020, edition of 'Honestly Speaking' with Claude O. Skelton-Cline, Mrs Christopher had said her eyes were set on the political space in the Territory, even though it may not necessarily be very soon.
"I'm not saying it is going to happen tomorrow, but if I'm truthful and I'm honest, I certainly would see myself in some political space... that's the honest truth," she said.
Comments labelled controversial
Now, the popular talk show host in an October 5, 2020, interview with Ninth District Representative, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), indicated that there was much controversy surrounding her comments.
“I made, I’m going to say, the mistake… because I don’t know how not to be honest. I was on, and I don’t ever do anybody’s talk show, I’m selfish like that and I did one, I ain’t doing another one,” she said jokingly to Hon Wheatley.
“And so they ask me… well where do you see yourself in the future, and I silly lily willy me said well maybe in the future, maybe, I will probably look into politics,” she said.
Mrs Christopher then moved to set the record straight, saying that it is her love for people that sparked the comment and not a need to ‘push’ a politician out of their job.
Measuring words
“I didn’t say I will do it tomorrow people, but I believe in being authentically honest.”
Christopher signalled amusement that the comments sparked a ‘big stir’, leading to Hon Wheatley advising that those in the public sphere must measure their words.
“Maybe I need to shut up and don’t talk,” Mrs Christopher remarked, "I don’t know how to measure my words, so maybe it might not be a good space [politics] for me,” she joked.
