‘Moderate malfunction’ on generating set- Neil M. Smith

Meanwhile, General Manager of BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) Neil M. Smith, in a post last night, said the power outage was the result of a moderate malfunction on the generating set powering the island.

“Residents would recall that this generating set is a temporary measure that is being utilised until repairs can be completed on the subsea cable that was damaged and usually supplies the island with power.

“As of this evening, several steps are being taken to restore the power to the island in the coming hours. Please be assured of the BVIEC’s focused and sustained efforts to provide the residents of JVD with power as soon as possible. We will keep you updated on our progress as more information becomes available. Please accept our sincere regret for the inconvenience caused.” Mr Smith stated.

Up to 9:20 AM today, the island was still without electricity.

Why isn't the sub sea cable being fixed after so long? Where is the representative? Big tourist season and you still here talking about temporary after all those months. Meanwhile their rep was jet setting in Africa a few weeks ago.

In the continued support of the growth and development of the bvi the Government must work to ensure we maintain an expanded power grid that allows businesses to thrive.
