GREAT HARBOUR, Jost van Dyke, VI – Information coming into our news center is that residents of Jost van Dyke have reportedly been facing power challenges today, September 18, 2023, as a result of issues with an undersea cable supplying the sister island with electricity from the power grid.

The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) in an update this morning said at just about 2:15am today, a fault occurred, leading to the tripping of the West End feeder out of Packwood Pond.

Officials added that the problem was localized to JvD, and power was successfully restored to the rest of the feeder at approximately 3:20 a.m., however, it appears the issues may have impacted service to JvD for an extended period.

Second District Representative in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA), Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) confirmed that BVIEC was experiencing issues with its underwater cable with plans to put a generator in place for electricity.

Speaking this afternoon via a voice message heard by our news center, the legislator said the BVIEC after putting a system in place for alternative electricity, will then work to rectify the issues with the cable.

Our news center will bring more information as it becomes available. It remains unclear if power has been restored to the island up to publication time.

I maybe young .but I think that just van dyke virgin Gorda n anegada should have their own power stations by now. N with they having their own. It would take a strain of the generators on tortola. And the under water lines would be used if theirs an emergency

@asura try stay off the blogs your ignorance, stupidity & all around lack of commonsense showing. I don't know Neil personally so my following comments speak to what I know & have observed. It's because he's now the GM why a lot of movement has already started for the workers especially at the power plant. There are ppl within the company who dont want him there simply because the @^&kry they were getting away away with under L%$oy watch as the previous GM Neil aint for it. He is a no nonsense tyoe of person looking out for his workers.

*%$oy didnt give a flying &*^%@ about them nor that place he was busy scheming ways to sink BVIEC. The pockwood pond crew been working like dogs for yearssss to keep the country & your @ss with power yet they get nothing but ungrateful remarks from not only the public but within the same company. You need to speak to the power plant crew especially the mechanics & hear how they feel now having Neil in place as opposed to all the yrs of hell with the past GM.

As to the underwater cable line, let me refresh your memory if you forgot or simply never knew. About 9 yrs ago the same damn thing happened where the line was damaged & JVD had to rely on a generator to power the island for a good while till the line was repaired. Ask the residents over there they will confirm for you. Who was the GM then? Where was Neil then strups. I swear yall ppl just sickening as hell

Is this a setup to push more Green? Be careful when you sign these UN agreements and never share what's in the MOUs with the public. Expect more blackouts, and power issues, in this Green New Deal, AGENDA 2030/NSDP 2036

The problem with Green Energy will be what exactly…? I encourage everyone to invest in renewable energy so they are not left in the dark like they are now. Yes, keeping an island of 100 people in the dark is part of Agenda 21…You people are idiots..

Going green I laugh all the time. The idiot my friend is really whO? Western countries have been exploiting African countries for their cobalt and other raw materials to make these so-called green energy products. Everything that you use comes from nature, my friend. Less reliance on fossil fuels creates another problem somewhere else. Electric vehicles charge at a charging station powered by what again? The manufacturing process per ton of renewable energy has a very large carbon footprint they offset this by way of carbon credits. Don't get me wrong, I applaud real renewable energy products that are not controlled by the same big groups and elites that water down and suppress technology markets to a point where it is mediocre. They've proven time and time again free energy is everywhere even in the air but anything that is not made for profit gets tossed aside and time and time again people end up missing if they prove that energy can be free for all.
This initiative is not a one-size-fits-all and that's the problem with this and even more so you'll soon learn when carbon tax is introduced to these SIDS.
The more solar or renewable we adapt will have it's SHortfall on BVIEC, unless they start to transition. This will cause less revenue and then another problem.
In coming legislation, they've done this in some states in the US that even though you have solar the government charges a set price monthly to accommodate for revenue loss at their local power stations. Again hush your mouth and just stop reading a script from all the UN propaganda. Up to now since these groups of people have been around they haven't solved any global problem and in my opinion they've done more harm than good.
        By the way.
Did you know it costs more to recycle plastics uses more energy and produces more carbon? Do some research and let that sink in " with the Idiot comment". I guess when people have a brain and choose not to follow every tune they become targets of hatred. "Truth has now become the enemy."

back to the 80's before VG and JVD were connected to the electricity grid by undersea power cables. Maybe these 2 islands should copy Anegada and just build their own power supply with solar panels, batteries and a stand-by diesel generator.

Looking at the condition of the cable where it enters the water near old Bomba's it's no wonder. How long has that cable been in service ?

Those cables were laid in 1989 by a German company. The question is if the company was ever contacted to maintain and service those cables
