JVD man pleads guilty to 'ganja' possession charges
The defendant, a construction worker and father of two children who reportedly reside in the US Virgin Islands, pleaded not guilty to possession of 6 grams of cocaine that Police alleged he had in his possession at the time of his arrest on May 12, 2012 at White Bay, Jost Van Dyke.
Chinnery, who is being represented by attorney, Marie Lou Creque, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of 1.2g of cannabis; using a motor vehicle (scooter) when not covered by insurance in relation to a third party risk, driving without a driver’s licence and driving an unlicensed vehicle.
Senior Crown Counsel Sarah Benjamin, who held for Crown Counsel Herbert Potter, said the Crown needed to await the testing of the cocaine allegedly found on the defendant before deciding on whether they will proceed with the charge.
Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards granted Chinnery $35,000 bail with one surety and referred him to the Sandy Lane Centre for drug treatment counselling in the interim.
Chinnery will return to court on August 16, 2013 by which time it is expected the substance will be tested.
