'Just go out & try' sailing- Olympian Thad A. Lettsome
Lettsome represented the Virgin Islands in Men’s Dinghy ILCA7 at the games in Marseille, France.
Lettsome, speaking with Sofia Fay, Media Liaison for the British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee, asked Virgin Islanders to go out and try sailing as they may enjoy doing it.
“Just go out and try the thing, you know you have to start to get here. So, just take the chance, take what you think is a risk and go see what sailing is like,” he said.
'Absolutely amazing' to have rep VI- Lettsome
Adding that he was happy to be the first person to represent the VI in sailing since 1996, Lettsome hopes he will not be the last.
Lettsome, who along with Adaejah T. Hodge was the flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics, said it was his pleasure to represent the Virgin Islands at the Olympics.
“It was absolutely amazing to represent the BVI here at the Olympics against the best guys in the world at the pinnacle of the sport and essentially just see what I can do against the best guys in the world,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Lettsome called his second-place finish in Race 4 a great achievement and something he would never forget. He also hopes it serves as “an inspiration to people going forward”.
