JTV camera crew kicked off Tortola Pier Park
According to our information, the organisers of the show had made contact with some of the popular businesses based at the multimillion dollar tourism facility and they were all excited to be part of the show, which is viewed across a wide spectrum of viewers in the Virgin Islands and globally.
However when the JTV camera crew arrived, security intervened and despite getting the go-ahead from management of the business establishments, insisted that the hot spots should not be the only ones getting the limelight and gave them their marching papers.
This reportedly took place on Friday September 16, 2016.
Who was TPP built for?
Local media personality and Director of Scatos Bus and Party Tours that was being featured on the show, Karl ‘Dub’ Scatliffe said the entire matter irked him and he wanted to, apart from raising awareness, find out who TPP was built for using taxpayers’ money?
“It’s our taxpayer's money that is paying for this place and you are coming and tell us we are restricted from coming and people that paying rent in here can't advertise because you say they can’t advertise?” he asked.
The camera crew was allegedly even threatened to be sued if they proceeded to disobey and he pointed out that he is trying to understand what is the difference between somebody taking out their cell phone and videotaping and using a professional camera?
Scatliffe noted that the security’s arguments were that no one can film on the premises without prior permission and the TPP is private even though it is open to the public.
Leasing and Marketing Manager of Tortola Pier Park Meslyn M. Allan told this news site that videotaping is allowed in the park; however, persons must notify the management of TPP.
This news site also made contact with Andrea Harvey, the programme’s host on JTV, who confirmed the incident.
It was in March of this year that a local musician, who said he had been providing musical entertainment at the cruise pier for the past 16 years, mounted a protest at Tortola Pier Park, claiming that he was not being allowed to play his music there.
David G. Smith had alleged that he had not been allowed to work since the current tourist season opened.
According to Smith, the person in charge of the scheduling is picking and choosing who to play.
Allan had said that that the Tortola Pier Park is an equal opportunity employer and that Smith was being unreasonable in his requests.
