ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – For the first time since 2007, the BVI Squash Rackets Association (BVISRA) will host the Nagico and Interpath Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association Championships 2024 (Junior CASA) at the Tortola Sports Club (TSC).

The championships, a Caribbean squash flagship event and biggest junior squash tournament in the region, are set to take place from June 30 to July 6, 2024.

The VI team will be the largest to represent the territory at a Junior Casa with 14 players registered to compete. The team includes Oliver Henderson, Danny Henderson, Zevieh Abraham, Ethan Mohamed, Lilly Smit, Joshua Noblett, Jakob Noblett, Zivon Abraham, Rylan Smit, Emily Jackson, Ashton Starkey, Devon Mellor, Delilah Pease and Leela Mellor.

"Our juniors have been working extremely hard over the recent months to prepare as best as possible,” said National Squash Coach, Adam Murrills. “The results have been improving every year in the recent past and I see no reason for that to be any different this year. Whilst you can never be sure of how much other countries will have improved over the past 12 months... I am confident in the work that we have done and I'm looking forward to our juniors putting on a good show in front of our home fans!”

The Opening Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, July 3 at the TSC.

Close to 150 athletes to compete

According to a press release from the BVI Squash Rackets Association, the Junior Casa event expects to see just under 150 of the best juniors from 7 different territories in the region with representation from Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The juniors will be accompanied by 50-100 coaches, parents and family members.

The event is sports tourism in action with over 200 people visiting and attending the tournament over a week with time allowance to tour and experience the hospitality and natural beauty of the VI, the press release stated.

With measles on the rise it is my sincere hope that ALL of these kids are vaccinated. And don't come for me in the comments because although this is good, we also need to protect OUR OWN.
