Jordan R. Cline & USA peers raise funds for VI's Kenya school
The young Cline was finishing up his years as a High School student in the USA, Framingham High School in Framingham Massachusetts and having knowledge of the school project that is being spearheaded by his uncle in Kenya he thought of an initiative that would help children get a chance at an education.
He organized activities including yard sales which raised the cash and it was not a ‘me alone’ initiative but rather students who have no ties to the VI join with him making it possible.
The two peers who are in the VI today and accompanied Cline in making the presentation to the church are Victoria A. Mescall and Jaimilee N. Dresser.
On Thursday night July 9, 2015 Cline and his high school friends who came to the VI with him on vacation handed the cheque over to the New Life Baptist Church. The monies were raised over a two weeks period. "We hope that our cause goes to giving the children supplies in thier school so that they can not only focus on the work inside the school but outside of the school as well and in three weeks we raised one thousand forty seven dollars," Cline said at the presentation.
The Project in Kenya
It started in 2001 when Bishop Cline made his first trip to Kenya and a story had been told to the church which he headed and they got on board with a mission to the country starting in 2006 as they spearheaded the project which today is providing an education for some 300 plus less fortunate children.
Speaking with this news site Bishop Cline said that the team, not only church members, will be leaving for Kenya come July 30, 2015 where they would be undertaking the pouring of the roof slab for the school there.
Among the 12-member team are contractors, labourers and two VI women with nursing backgrounds Mrs Jennifer O'Neal and Mrs Jean Vanterpool.
For this phase of the project the team needs a total of $17,000 and with the most recent donation by Cline and peers, they are now at $10,000. "So anyone no matter how small is welcomed," said Bishop Cline as he encouraged others to donate to the cause.
The school in Kenya is named ‘Tortola Child Rescue and Learning Centre’ and according to Bishop Cline the primary division alone has over 300 students who are each sponsored by persons here in the VI with their donation of just $200 annually.
