ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – “More now than ever before, planning your financial future and well-being is of vital importance with many jobs at risk and raises and promotions few and far between. You have to adopt a new way of thinking and being if you are going to achieve your financial goals.”

Those were the words of Managing Partner of PKF BVI, Mr Meade Malone at a brief press conference this morning September 30, 2013 to introduce the ‘Six Pillars of Successful Personal Financial Planning Workshop and Expo scheduled for Saturday October 5 and 12, 2013 at UP’s Cineplex.

With the aim of guiding persons on key steps necessary to unlock their financial freedom, Mr Malone said it is important that persons, especially parents, take charge of their finances as jobs in the Virgin Islands are no longer secured.

A nice way to use the global economy thing and the layoffs taking place in the VI, to promote salary cutting. If you don't want to lose your entire pay in a layoff, then take a pay cut. This will go well for those employers who want to reduce those employees' salaries who were overpaid anyway. Alternatively, work less days with less pay but produce at same rate. This cleans up the slackers and those who have a lot of time on their hands talking or surfing the internet and not doing the company's work.

A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and it's hard for them to save toward their kids' education. We live in a society where the standard of living is higher than our salaries.
