Jazz Freeman tried to evade cops on motor scooter - court told
The court heard that on Saturday October 24, 2015 at 9 pm three officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force were on a police mobile patrol in the vicinity of A-Value Supermarket in Huntum's Ghut when they observed an individual riding a black and red motor scooter.
The court heard that upon seeing the police vehicle the young man suddenly turned around and proceeded in the opposite direction, causing the police ranks to intercept him.
The officers then identified themselves and informed the accused that he will be searched. While nothing was found on the motorscooter, the police allegedly found what they suspected to be cannabis in a ziplock bag secreted in a compartment of a blue backpack.
Freeman allegedly told police, “I didn't know I had that in the bag.”
The court heard that a further search of the bag revealed a plastic container with a single transparent ziplock bag containing a green vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis.
When asked about the contents of the bag the accused responded, “weed, officer.”
He was then transported to the Road Town Police Station where the suspected narcotic was weighed and which amounted to 4.7 grammes with an estimated street value of $47 dollars.
Freeman, who works in construction on the sister island of Jost Van Dyke, will return to court on July 8, 2016 to plead.
