James T. John reportedly dies on LIAT flight to VI
According to reports reaching our newsroom, Mr John was on a LIAT flight to the Virgin Islands when he appeared non-responsive. Mr John had arrived in St Martin on another airline and the connecting flight was ready to depart St Martin for Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island when Mr John was noticed to be in a state of distress.
It is believed Mr John boarded the flight to Beef Island in the care of a medical professional. He was reportedly returning from Jamaica where he was hospitalised for some time with stage 4 lung cancer and prior to take-off his condition took another turn for the worse.
The LIAT flight then returned to the gate, according to two passengers who spoke exclusively to our newsroom. Mr John had also received paramedical support but reportedly died in the process.
On November 7, 2014 Mr James T. John appeared before Magistrate Dr Velon L. John and was sentenced to three years in prison, fined $100, 000 and an additional 12 months for cash found on his person at the time of a drug bust.
