Jamaica sweeps women's 100-meters finals in Tokyo Olympics
No contestant stood a chance against Jamaica's sprinting trio, in a race that saw Elaine Thompson-Herah winning followed by Shelly Ann-Fraser Pryce and Shericka Jackson.
Thompson's time of 10.61 is a new Olympic record and also marks back-to-back gold medals for the 29-year-old Jamaican, as she also took gold in this event in Rio.
4th Gold for Jamaica in woman's 100m finals
The second-place medal went to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce with 10.74 and third to Shericka Jackson with 10.76.
Saturday's sprint is the fourth consecutive gold medal in the event for Jamaica. Fraser-Prycer took home gold in 2008 and 2012 and Thompson-Herah won gold in 2016.
Absent from the competition was America's Sha’Carri Richardson, the 21-year-old American sprinter who clinched the U.S. record with a 10.86 at the U.S. Olympic trials in June.
Richardson has tested positive for marijuana after the race, voiding the record and barring her from competing in Tokyo.
