‘It’s like we have multiple personalities’ in HoA in front the cameras - Hon de Castro
“It's disappointing when we get an opportunity to make a difference and instead of making a difference we align with the political nonsense,” Hon de Castro stated in response to criticism of the Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).
Premier Wheatley in presenting Supplementary Estimates before the HoA revealed that upon review of the compensation for public officers by the Ministry of Finance in April 2024, that twenty-five million, fifty-six thousand, five hundred and eighteen dollars was needed and not 11.7 million dollars.
‘We have to stop it’- Hon de Castro
Smelling blood in the water, the Opposition launched an attack on Premier Wheatley and the controversial Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) went as far as calling on the Premier to resign as Finance Minister.
The Members of the Opposition, Premier Wheatley said, “very well know” that the compensation review was led by the Deputy Governor’s Office and they presented the figures on advice from Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC).
“We have a responsibility as Members of this House to be honest and forthright in our deliberations and discussions in and out of the House,” Hon de Castro stated.
Hon de Castro said she enjoys the Committee Stage as it is very productive and both the government and Opposition work together to address issues with bills.
“And that is why I want the public to see that part of it.”
“But you see when the camera comes on and the radio comes on? That’s the part of it that I don’t like, because it is like as if we have multiple personalities or something, and you start to see a whole bunch of madness that is not representative of the figures or the words on the paper and I think because we know that sometimes our people will not read and because they may not have the insight, we use the opportunity to sabotage the process for our individual political benefit and we have to stop it.”
‘Set a good example’- Hon de Castro tells fellow legislators
Hon de Castro added that the behaviour by some legislators can discourage young aspiring legislators from seeking to enter the HoA.
“And it's disappointing when we get an opportunity to make a difference and instead of making a difference we align with the political nonsense and we refuse to sit down as colleagues [to] have the meetings that we need to have to move forward our education sector, our youth development sector, our sports sector, our work sector, health sector, our financial services sector.”
“We're not willing to do that but we're willing to come in here and talk nonsense publicly. We got to do better,” Hon de Castro stated.
Hon de Castro also stated that she “unequivocally” stands by her leader, Premier Wheatley.

Let’s us take a look at the budget process, which is an estimate of revenues and expenses. Each ministry, department, division, office, Statutory bodies, Governor/Deputy Governor Office, etc submit budget estimates to the MoF for the upcoming fiscal year. The submitted estimates must be credible, reflecting confidence in the process. I will take a guess that every activity(s) under a Ministry must submit their budget estimate to the Minister before they are forwarded to tge MoF. If no, the system is flawed. Similarly, Deputy Governor submittals hopefully are reviewed by the Governor. Hear is a news flash. One can delegate a task to a subordinate but the responsibility and accountability for that tasks cannot be delegated away——Ultimate Responsibility. Was the submittal from the Governor’ s Office take at face value?? There are reports of a pending investigation into how such a large delta ocuured. Nevertheless, I doubt it will get off the ground. However, if it were an action taken by local government, a commission of inquiry would be commissioned. But Mount Olympus probably is not going to investigate itself? And even if does, tge outcome is clear ; it will be airbrushed.
Politician = liar

Therefore:
