It does not have to get worse before getting better
The past 12-months have been terrible for many of us who have lost Spouses, Homes and Livelihood but there is no turning back the hands of time… As a Writer, right or wrong, things I say, are there for all to see and I am fortunate not to have misled you even in the classic case of Trump’s mis-Election where, what you are now seeing and hearing is what I explained to you over a year ago… (You may check this).
Our People still need the Truth and Reality I have provided for Decades but I delayed coming to you this past month because I preferred speaking about positive things at a time when BV-Islanders are hurting so badly… Unfortunately it seems the longer I wait the worse things become and while many have said the Hurricanes were sent by God to punish and make us better, we have seen very little signs of this.
Instead, Greed, Wickedness and Badmindness have increased to unnatural levels with Property Owners and Insurance Companies trying to outsmart oneanother… As a consequence, the Recovery Rate is slow and scores of Deaths already linked to these Storms is worsened by the recent Mass Murders… Meanwhile, from a distance, new Vegetation hides Galvanise, Plywood and Beds strewn across the hills.
To some, out of sight is out of mind but fact remains that many Persons are still in need of Sheltering and it is clear that most of the little growth we now experience come from cases where Leaders have been absent or less involved… In Today’s situation it seems that the best way for Leaders not to impede Progress is to clear the Way, protect us from Vampires, and reduce their Payrolls, Tarriffs and Taxes.
We are all in this together so Policies and Action designed to destroy each other are not Solutions -Three months Grace is not enough time to recover from two major Hurricanes and Private Enterprises can no longer carry an overbloated Governmental Beauracy on their Back - Draconian Regulations and Laws must be set aside and Persons be given the scope and opportunity to help themselves and others.
These are among the things I believe would foster Recovery but fear may be difficult to achieve and things will worsen if and when reality outruns reasoning and Governmental Bureacacies seek to re-impose their selfimportance on a still suffering People… Loose talk about Begging Missions and the IMF should be avoided wherever possible for this would only make things worse in the long run.
At the same time we must control our own Emotions and resist those who encourage us to blame Government for everything bad while they offer no help or solutions… This is no time to call for Elections and changing Governments when Persons are in need of immediate assistance – Our focus must be on Territory-wide Recovery and our demands fixed to the practice of Good Governance…
Time and Tide wait on no Man and as much as we thank those who help us, we must begin to help ourselves… Maybe this Christmas can be a real Re-Birth for the [British] Virgin Islands… Ho! Ho! Ho!
