ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Islanders overcame a tenacious Ballstars 2-0 on Wednesday night February 12, 2014, to go joint top in the standings with One Love as the BVIFA Premier League takes a break and focus shifts to the nine a side knockout sponsored by the Hon. Marlon Penn.

The Islanders secured all three points with a hard fought 2-0 win over the young Ballstars courtesy of first half goals from Francis Primo and Nano Ottley.

Although reduced to ten men in the second half, the Ballstars put up a brave fight to get back into the game, but were unable to get on the score sheet, despite having a large slice of possession.

“I’m pretty pleased with the outcome” commented Islanders Coach, Lenroy Henry “We stuck to the task that we practiced and came out ready to play. The Ballstars played well in the second half, so I take my hat off to them.”

Ballstars’ Coach, Vincent Samuel lamented his team’s slow start to the game which cost them the goals “We started the game flat and paid for that. We did not start how we practiced, but the second half was much better. The advent of the red card made a difference as I felt the game could have gone either way up until that moment.”

The draw for the nine a side was conducted by Mr. Keith “Grell” Griffith, the BVIFA Technical Director and the Honourable Marlon Penn.

“It’s a very important tournament event for us to be hosting in East End” said Hon Marlon Penn. “We are looking to create a whole sporting complex in the East and this is a precursor of things to come in football for our community. I’m looking forward to seeing the teams come out and play and for great things during the tournament”

On Sunday February 16, 2014 at 6.15 pm the Islanders will face Old Madrid followed by the Wolues against Ballstars at 7.45 pm.

On Wednesday February 19, 2014, the Haitian Stars will face the Rebels F.C at 6.30 pm and then One Love will come up against the Panthers at 7.45 pm.

The semi-finals will take place on Wednesday February 26, 2014 with the final scheduled for Sunday March 2, 2014.

League action will resume on the A.O. Shirley grounds at the completion of the Honourable Marlon Penn nine a side tournament.
